As digital photography rises to its fame and almost all of the people around the globe owned a DSLR and starting to venture into photography, it is very important that you should look at the type of photography that you are suitable and has a passion in doing it. For some, portrait photography is their expertise and some have a passion into travel photography.
One of the most sensitive and perhaps popular types of photography is the sexy photography. Others called it glamor photography and nude photography. Well, I will not be discussing nude photography because it’s not just appropriate for my audience. Sexy photography is very popular in Men’s magazine and they are the most popular type of magazine next to lifestyle magazines. Sexy photographs are attractive to the eyes of men and fashion magazines are really doing it intentionally.
If you want to try this kind of photography there are requirements that you should check first before you can do sexy photography. Here is the check list:
Look for the right model
This sounds simple but it is one of the most difficult to do, it’s because this type of photography requires body exposure and models that are professional to this line are pricey. If you are just starting out to be a glamor photographer, look for models that are willing to do it and comfortable doing it. Look for budding models that will engage in this kind of modelling. Ask them about your proposal in exchange for images that will serve as their portfolio. You got a model for you to practice and they got images for their portfolio, so it’s an X-deal.
Look for a right place for the shoot
Do you plan to have your shoot outdoors or in a studio? Plan and prepare the location of the shoot since this type of photography requires less exposure to the public. Your model will be uncomfortable when there are many people looking at her. Look for a place which is solemn, far from the city where the model can express and can do all the poses without worrying of the surrounding people. Upon talking or proposing to your model, you must have the planned location presented to her. Most of this kind of photography is done in a studio, a private garden, your garage or rented room in a hotel. But there are lot of options depending on the guts of your model. So, talk about it with your model and she must agree before moving in scheduling the photo shoot.
Use lens with Long-Focal Length
Lenses such as prime and telephoto lens are suitable for this kind of photography. It will not only give you the power to have focus on your model, it will also give distance from your model. This will make the model comfortable because you are establishing distance. The 85mm prime lens or any telephoto lenses are most recommended.
Look on the model’s eyes most of the time
Your model is a human being and at some point they are very sensitive over the respect that you gave to them during the photo shoot. It is important that you will give her the impression that you are a professional. Looking to her eyes means that you are not looking somewhere else. This is very true and they are sensitive about it. This will also make them comfortable because they will see you portraying as an artist. Your body language can be seen in your eyes.
Here’s a video from Karl Taylor Photography, I emailed him and ask if I could use his video as an example and I thank him for letting me to use it. This is one of the most important things that you will consider in releasing your model’s photo in the public. Ask your model if it is alright to post it in a website or a social media network. Make a consent signed by your model for the release of the photos into the public and respect the decision.
